Her grandfather was the great portraitist John B. Yeats and her uncle the painter Jack B. Yeats. Like many female artists, fame and recognition came slower and harder than it did to their brothers, husbands and fathers. She studied at the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin. She worked for many years in the Abbey Theatre as a set
