Campbell Dress Tartan Kilt red white blue kilt symbolizing the strength and serenityThe Clan Campbell was a powerful force in the West of Scotland and Argyllshire. Known as the clan of Diarmid, they gained the Lordship of Lochow in the 13th century. Colin Campbell of Lochow, an ancestor of the Campbells of Argyll, was knighted around 1280. The subsequent chiefs became Earls of Argyll until 1701 when William of Orange conferred a Dukedom to the 10th Earl. The 9th Earl was executed in 1685 for his involvement in the Monmouth Rebellion.
