Vintage Large Carnelian Penannular Brooch Gilt Silver Georgian paste Measures 15This is a very cool piece, made in a very old style of brooch called a penannular which is typically seen in Celtic medieval brooches but have been used as far back as the Roman era. The origin of this particular piece is unknown, it may be a museum reproduction of some kind and is very similar in style to the Hunterston Brooch but is not an exact replica. It is very finely made of heavy gilt silver and carnelian cabochons, with wirework throughout.
