Constructed of silvered brass with multi coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a bow tie ribbon, topped by a German State Crown, set around a central square enameled applique consisting of a black and white checkered centrepiece within a red border, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 44. 60 mm (w) x 71.
